Drop trau/trou/trow?

nothing in the stylebook, I'm thinking trou based on the urban dictionary and a few AP articles, my ol'fogey editor insists it's trow.

new goal: save up $50K, buy a boat and bounce up and down ports of call along the west coast while writing my magnum opus, a book which will contain syntax so grand that it will function as a verbal retrovirus - precipitating a leap in mental evolution.

receive an email from our grandmother entitled, "When we girls drink too much."

if you don't have a grandma that cool, I have no suggestions for you.

if things like engine belts, etc, were made as mobius strips, would they last twice as long?

I totally wrote a solid 40 inch article on it and got it onto my papers front page.

you should read it.

in darkest moments, the thought that maybe all that is frustration and crap in my life occurs because I break chain letters.

I just spent a ridiculous morning/afternoon reading up on and teaching myself the entirety of HTML, as opposed to knowing a few tags and not really understanding how it all fits together, and well,

close your tags! even the empty ones! and make sure you include an extra space if you close it in the single tag! thats 2 spaces, no joke! nest your elements properly!

this is big stuff, don't mess around. one day, your web contributuons will look liek crap because you didnt bother to start writing your code in a well formed manner now! use only lower case fro your tags! learn CSS because all of the display tags are deprecated and if you use them the HTML police will shoot you!

see, i spared you the use of multiple exclamation points, which ive been barraged with all morning, but, i couldnt work them out entirely. This! is! important!

(or maybe i just really need to go home now)

Wed, Jan. 25th, 2006 10:17 am

sorry, but I just don't get it.

Tue, Jan. 24th, 2006 02:32 am

spent a day getting doctored, recuperated, and then this:

I presented to the Gwynn's Falls Trail Council, my first step in world domination.

*cough* I mean, making this thing happen.

It went exceedingly well, and as always I learned much, and people were cool.

and yet again its 2:30 a.m. and I'm just getting to bed.

(because I would like to note my book selection for my amusal later in life, or perhaps, as a place to point to, a thats where it all began, or, as i worry lately, thats where it all went wrong. and also, because maybe i feel that it would somehow enrich your lives to know)

the fallign asleep at 9:30 p.m. that led to the waking up and the floodgates of useless words that I didn't erase as I keep hoping the waters will go and leave some useful debris, (see? still not over it) but, the falling asleep was led to by the reading of 5 books, simultaneously:

Starter Wise - Complete Business Plan
Malcolm Gladwell's Tipping Point
Duany, Plater-Zyberk and Speck's Suburban Nation
Visual Start - PHP/MySQL
Jack McDevitt's Engines of God

wow, simply writing those down gave me such a better understanding than that gushing of water-fat words.

there is a truth in first uttering, or lacking face to face contact - in first committing words to paper.

in that truth is found exactly what you mean, unaltered by what you think the other person wants to hear.

when i sat down to commit that to this collection of snippets I find important (and yes, highly useless and often petty, silly) I was fairly sure that that truth was best maintained. In writing the words, consciously taking the idea in my head to coherent thought (even perhaps - as this is such a exhibitionary forum - correspondence) I decided that perhaps that truth is not always the best course of action, depending on your objective.

however, when dealing with personal relationship - acquaintances, friends, more - it is perhaps best to stay as close to that truth as you can, so as to not lead your self astray in your dealings in which you involve your own self.

(and, again, as I consciously arrange these words in the form of my thoughts, perhaps in your business dealings as well, depending - of course.)

I myself seem to be an intimidating person, maybe it is just my height and self posession, but probably not. yet I like who I am, and never really let it bother me when my physical person intimidates people.

lately I have really seen my writen correspondence do the same, and it has really been upsetting me - though I try to play it off, even to myself, as I always do. Tonight, upon waking with a hunger in my belly and pleasant dreams half remembered lingering on my mind, it came into focus that, especially with my written correspondence, I am quite verbose, and often truthful, I write my hopes into each sentence, and supply each word choice and placement with its own plethora of syntax, and, more importantly, that there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I may be finding myself dissapointed in the short term, but I won't in the long term.

or perhaps this is just me, and my refusal in to alter my interaction with people to meet what I think they want is just plain rigidity, or perhaps its simply because I don't actually know what they want.

and, of course, to dip back into the sci-fi, (spec-fi) it reminds me of asimov's psychohistory - I'm great with large, impersonal groups of people. they love me, but once its reduced to small numbers, up close, I am at a loss, and can connect only with people who require no effort to click with.

as often happens when I begin writing on a personal note, i have lost my first meaning, and i am not entirely sure i gained anything more. i began with a conclusion firmly in mind, and am left with five new questions.

but, I do feel better, and more resolved. about what, I'm not sure. or, maybe I don't.

I treasure concise, well imbued thoughts, ideas, sentences, etc.
but seem often, unable to express myself in them, or perhaps, to commit myself to so few words.

but, as is often the case, many more do little better, if not much worse.

the news world has taught me (and perhaps, the world) a dirty, quick lede, pyramid scheme style of communication. It could be for the better, if people looked deeper at the communication, but most often they dont, which leads to most (or perhaps just those already unsure of themselves) to balle on more, which is, by and large, ignored, and eventually leads to -perhaps- giving up on communication altogether.

and now im really far, and actually pondering on other people that id already decided not to ponder on.

and my quick, concise point has, yet again, turned into a useless brain puddle.

gah. stop writing already.

and, I'm wondering why adding "visionary" to my title struck me as a good idea back in October.

reheated pepperoni pizza doused with tabasco suace.
(oh, and carrots)

is it worrisome that I now have a bottle for my house, my desk at work, and my pack?

Tue, Jan. 10th, 2006 11:58 pm

3 day old pizza. somehow making cupcakes in a kitchen that contains only; 3 plates, a fork, trashbags, 4 bottles of booze and a bottle of bleach(conveniently shelved together), a halpack of natty, and frozen hotwings. ripped version of the wedding crashers. a drunken voicemail of brandon "hey baby"-ing (yes, he said those words, as well as "no, dont go in the alley") and hiccoughing, played repeatedly at random intervals through the evening. tripping over where adam decided to cut his carpet in half and tear it up the other night. diving off of couches onto peoples feet only to be drug across the floor, or maybe chase into a corner said feet.

AND somehow getting an entire block survey - 43 houses, 9 vacant lots - completed.

1211 light st, huzzah.

Coal Combustion releases more harmful radioactives than nuclear.
so not only is it more generally pollutive, its more radioactive.

what what.

I'm reading through my insurance elections that I just got in the mail, as well as perusing the various prospectus for investing my 401K. Of course, the most agressive portfolios (I'm young, and so those woudl be the ones I want) include stock with walmart and phillip morris and such, and, well, I just refuse to be that hypocrite.

adultish, and on a moonday morning no less.

its time for a river trip.

I survived the Holiday season by dining on the young of mine enemy.

I just finished the 5th large bag of pine nuts in little over 2 weeks.

I can hear the baby trees' screams with each delicious crunch.

spending New Years like I'll be spending the new year; working, towards my dreams.

it's lonely, but the future holds so much potential - if only I can accomplish it.

do you believe that, due to a crappy 5th grade teacher, i only, just now, correctly understand the schrodingers cat theory?

she explained it in 5th grade with an additional supposition that opening the box wold also trip the poison and kill the cat, for sure, thus f'ing up all the rest.

whoa. this is much simpler and straightforward now.

at any given time, there is probably fairly fresh wood dust on some household item, or possibly lots of them. Take, for instance, just now - I went to get a glass of water, and noticed that in my hurry to cut a length of 4x4 with which to "sledge jack up" our slumping kitchen floor/basement ceiling, I covered all of our clean dishes and bread with wood shavings.

and, about two hours later, havign moved the chop/shop saw to the basement (the sledge jacking was wildly succcessful! no more tippy stove! or puddle floor!) i tossed a 2x4 onto the chop/shop saw to cut the final length for the wall framing for the night, and managed to get it spot on measurement just with that toss, mentioned it, and then cut right through the measuring tape.

on a semi-related note, my bedroom door now sports a pretty bow - yellow, with numbers all along it.

and, finally, having a sister who leaves bags of brownies (no, not special ones) in your room, and cats who tend to decimate any type off food, is not good and ends up having you return home from federal hill at 1 a.m. ready to go to bed only to have to have you first wonder what the hell happened, then sweep off your bed, then your floor, then change the sheets, and then get up 20 minutes later, all itchy.

oh, and i found 3 mice tonight that probably lived their lives before i was ever a twinkle in my mums eye.

so, how about instead of TEACHING in schools, we let the students LEARN?

like say, instead of having a class/teacher tell you (and expect you to take it at face value, one of the big reasons high school and I had such problems through our time together) why not have a class where all of these texts are available, and the students research and make up their own opinions, and discuss them with the direction of the teaecher?

why not have them LEARN, as opposed to learn to be unimaginatove and complacent?

I mean, i know where I stand on intelligent design, much less its ever being taught (forced) but, all of this stupid back and forth just makes me realize the bigger problem here; telling as teaching.

and can i just say, vindication on my take on moral/religious hypocrisy? a** hats.

(yes, i said a**, instead of a real cuss, b/c Hi! Grandmas and Grampas, Aunts and Uncles who I love who read my blog!)

ok, so im not sayign that there is anything, per se, wrong with shopping, it is a facet of trade that makes the world go round, its fine, i shop, no big.

what gets me is when people elevate this blase, everyday trade of goods into something, often b/c of gobs of money, or, uh idiocy, or, lack of real interests and participation in life.

i mean, shopping as a hobby? shopping as a uniting interest? shopping being somethgn that one person is better at than others? how hard is it to buy something, to trade the money you earned providing services for someone elses serrvices or goods? is it somethigin you have to practice at?

thats what ewwws me, people who lack brains.

Tue, Dec. 6th, 2005 11:39 am

in an article about 2 women who opened a gift shop together, "they discovered they both were married to men in the banking industry and both had a passion for shopping."

and in a column, "(including world class shoppers Sharon and Lisa)"

what the hell is that about? shopping, apparently is a talent, a skill, an interest that people share?

title or description

standing in the snow in my backyard in a 200 dollar pair of designer jeans as two city works employees snake out the root infested terra-cotta pipes which have failed as of late in delivering my waste to the city sewer system, we discussed the city's latest initiative of spending half a million on a new slogan, as the last few have gone over so well, and on what community really is, and how the joneses ruined it, and cantilever construction.

just every day, i love this city more.

this morning i spent two hours in mt. washington, reporting on the light rail, and getting coffee at the mill center. walking back to my car along the jones falls river, and just picturing golden park, with kayakers just surfing the features, superimposed.

im gonna make it happen, it already is.
